Poll shows Kansans love Clean Indoor Air Act

KAFP Executive Director, Carolyn Gaughan will join an enthusiastic group at Wichita's Town & Country restaurant to celebrate three years of reduced health risks from secondhand smoke from Kansas Clean Indoor Air Act and the law’s popularity among Kansans. The smoke-free policy went into effect three years ago this month. As part of the anniversary events, the Sunflower Foundation highlighted a recent statewide public opinion poll that 78 percent of voters – or about three out of four Kansans – favor the law which prohibits smoking in most public places, including workplaces, public buildings, offices, restaurant and bars.

    Kansas is paying enhanced Medicaid rates, retroactive to Jan.1

    HHS to provide $1.7 million to Kansas to help people sign up for health plans
    The Wichita Eagle
    The Department of Health and Human Services is allocating about $1.7 million for Kansas health centers to assist people select health insurance plans on the new online health insurance marketplace, which will be offered as part of the Affordable Care Act, according to a news release.

    KU hospital rated one of the best

    U.S. News & World Report rated the University of Kansas Hospital among the top 50 hospitals in the nation in ten specialty areas, according to the Kansas Health Institute. The hospital was also rated best adult hospital in both Kansas and the Kansas City metro area. This is the third year in a row the hospital has been named best adult hospital in the Kansas City metropolitan area.

    FDA moves to allow updates of generic drug warnings

    The Food and Drug Administration announced plans to give generic drug manufacturers permission to change safety labels on drugs when new information about potential risks is discovered. This comes after years of petitioning from consumer watchdog groups such as Public Citizen, which issued a report last week calling on the FDA to make it easier for generic drugmakers to update safety labeling.
