Earn 12 CME credits; Complete the ABFM module on Hospital Medicine

Attend this SAM (Self-Assessment Module) Group Learning Session on Dec. 5 to assist you in completing the American Board of Family Medicine module on Hospital Medicine, as part of your maintenance of certification process. In one day, assess and review the 60 core competency questions, led by Dr. Sheryl Beard. At the end of the day, the KAFP will report attendee's successful knowledge assessment score to the ABFM. You will be responsible for completing the clinical simulation portion of the SAM individually.

Welcome new Immunization Director: Peter Bodyk
KAFP
KAFP welcomes and congratulates Peter "Pete" Bodyk as the leader of the Kansas Immunization Program. Pete joins the Bureau of Disease Control and Prevention at KDHE having worked at the Department of Transportation as their Traffic Safety Manager for over nine years. Pete was responsible for developing programs and projects designed to increase safety on Kansas roads and reduce death and injury in motor vehicle crashes, which decreased by 20 percent during his time as manager. Please join KDHE in welcoming Pete to the Kansas Immunization Program.

Prevent and control seasonal influenza with vaccination

Do you know if your patients are protected against influenza and pneumonia? Last flu season, people 65 years and older accounted for approximately 50% of reported hospitalizations resulting from influenza and related complications. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that influenza vaccination is especially important for protecting those at highest risk for severe flu-related complications, such as adults 65 years and older and people with certain chronic health conditions.
