Advocacy Day registration open; SAVE THE DATE — Jan. 22
Registration is now open for Advocacy Day, Jan. 22, 2014 in Topeka, K.S. Be sure and save this important date in your calendar.
The day will energize you, prepare you and inform you about Kansas issues and the upcoming legislative session. We have a great line-up of speakers including KDHE Secretary Robert P. Moser, MD; Kanas Insurance Commissioner, Sandy Praeger; leaders of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas; Coventry and UnitedHealthCare insurance companies; and Senate and House leaders.
The KAFP is seeking active, life or resident members in your second or third year, to volunteer to serve as the Family Doctor of the Day at the Statehouse during the 2014 legislative session. Volunteers report to the Capitol Building in Topeka, K.S., from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. treating legislators, staff and visitors who need medical attention.

If you plan to attend this SAM (Self-Assessment Module) Group Learning Session on December 5, please register today. This SAM will assist you in completing the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) module on Hospital Medicine, as part of your maintenance of Certification (MC-FP) process. We must have a minimum number of participants to hold this SAM.

Free CMS national provider call: Access to PECOS, EHR and NPPES
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services will host a national provider call, Streamlined Access to PECOS, EHR, and NPPES (www.eventsvc.com) through the Medicare Learning Network Program on Friday, Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. CT.
The call is for all Medicare fee-for-service providers, as well as professionals and hospitals eligible for the Medicaid Electronic Health Record Incentive Program. Changes have been made to simplify the way providers and suppliers access the Provider Enrollment Chain and Ownership System, the EHR Incentive Program, and the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System.
Health information exchange and 2014 meaningful use
You are invited to the 10th in a series of monthly webinars regarding the Meaningful Use (MU) Stage 2 Final Rule.
Laura McCrary, Ed.D., executive director of the Kansas Health Information Network, will discuss how participation in a health information exchange will assist Eligible Professionals in meeting MU Stage 2 measures. Dr. McCrary will discuss the MU measures that can be facilitated if an Eligible Professional participates in KHIN. Specific objectives include: view online, download and transmit patient health data, transitions in care, reporting of immunizations, conducting syndromic surveillance, secure electronic messaging, reporting of cancer cases and reporting to a specialized registry.

HPV vaccine resources for healthcare professionals

Low HPV vaccination rates are leaving another generation of boys and girls vulnerable to devastating HPV cancers. Vaccination could prevent most of these cancers. CDC is looking to you to make a strong recommendation for HPV vaccination when kids are 11 and 12 years old. Provided on CDC's site are ready-to-use tools and resources for your practice to successfully communicate with parents about HPV vaccination.
