Deadline reminder: Rural Health Network Development Planning grant funding opportunity
KAFP
Rural Health Network Development Planning Grant Deadline – Jan. 9, 2015
[ONLINE APPLICATION]

The Federal Office of Rural Health Policy is currently seeking applications for Rural Health Network Development Planning Program (Network Planning). This is a one year community-driven program targeted to assist in the planning and development of an integrated health care network. Health care networks can be an effective strategy to address a broad range of challenges unique to rural communities by bringing together rural providers and other community organizations. For grantees, this funding provides an opportunity to implement new and innovative approaches to adapting to a changing health care environment that may serve as a model to other rural communities to better align and coordinate local health care services. Network planning activities that model evidence-based frameworks or models that work are encouraged. Previously funded projects include topics such as workforce, behavioral health, telehealth, care coordination, health information technology, and outreach and enrollment.

Q & A: Polio vaccine
IAC Express
Q: Please describe the new CDC interim recommendations for polio vaccination for infants, children, and adults traveling to and from countries affected by wild polio.

A: In the U.S., all infants and children should receive 4 doses of inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV, Sanofi) at ages 2, 4 and 6-18 months, and 4-6 years. The final dose should be administered at age 4 years or older, regardless of the number of previous doses, and should be given 6 months or more after the previous dose. A fourth dose in the routine IPV series is not necessary if the third dose was given at age 4 years or older and 6 months or more after the previous dose. Infants and children traveling to areas where there has been wild poliovirus circulation in the last 12 months should be vaccinated according to the routine schedule. If the routine series cannot be administered within the recommended intervals before protection is needed, an accelerated schedule can be used as followed.
