Ladies America: Ready, Set, Relaunch!
Ladies America

Ladies America is thrilled to share some of our most recent advancements as a national organization and on behalf of professional women across the country — which includes formally launching our NEW LOGO and Membership platform! This all is coming together perfectly this month, which is Women's History Month and the same week as International Women's Day.

We would absolutely love for everyone (women and men) to join us in celebrating our new look and programs — not to mention officially signing up as legit "members" (at a mere $8/month) of Ladies America/Ladies DC, etc.

We will also have a very special guest, Simon Dixon, CEO of Idea Engineering, the company that created our new logo, and expert branding professional/ international speaker on entrepreneurship. He is coming all the way from Santa Barbara, Calif. just to help us usher in this new era for Ladies America!

LeanIn.org and Getty aim to change women's portrayal in stock photos
The New York Times
There is the businesswoman, wearing a suit and glasses and holding a briefcase. There is the mother, smiling as she pours milk into her children's cereal bowls at the breakfast table. There is the multitasker, holding a laptop in one hand and a baby in the other. These stock images are familiar to anyone who has seen an advertisement or flipped through a magazine or brochure illustrating working women and families. And their ubiquity is hurting girls and women by feeding into old-fashioned stereotypes, says Sheryl Sandberg, the Facebook executive who has become an advocate for women achieving leadership roles.

Social networking offline still best for word-of-mouth
Social Barrel
The best social network is still meeting people personally to establish meaningful relationships, according to Ekaterina Walter, a hyper-networker, social media innovator and contributor to Forbes. Walter says that a connection that carries the greatest weight occurs when two individuals talk face to face. We may have become more connected through digital innovation, but being able to connect with someone online should be treated as just the first step on the road to establishing a relevant connection to that person.

5 things you can do to boost female talent ... even if you're not the CEO
The Huffington Post
"It's time to do away with workplace policies that belong in a 'Mad Men' episode." — President Barack Obama. And with those words tucked snugly within his recent State of The Union address, the president wittingly used popular culture to change, well, popular culture by encouraging business to attract, retain and develop more female leaders. Today, for the first time, Edelman is being recognized for precisely that by being named one of the Top Companies for Executive Women for 2014 by the National Association for Female Executives.

Women losing retail, government jobs as men get back to work in construction
The Washington Post
Recently, the Labor Department reported that the American economy added 113,000 jobs and the unemployment rate had fallen to 6.6 percent. While this sounds like good news, initial analysis interpreted the data otherwise. The jobs news was bad because the increase was much lower than expected, while the unemployment news was bad because it doesn't capture the underlying changes in the nature of unemployment.
