TIME

Leadership is more than coaching
By Betty Boyd
Leadership is and always will be an uphill battle. When leading, how do you make a real difference in people's lives? Leadership is more than coaching; it is more like being a teacher. Teachers enable their students to see beyond themselves and give them greater understanding of what can be accomplished. Leaders can be just like teachers, helping their mentees go above and beyond. Survey provides a great look at today's entrepreneur
Entrepreneur
Small-business owners are feeling better about the future — more optimistic now than any time since the first quarter of 2008. 5 tips for staying ahead on social media
Inc.
David Rivers writes: No matter how big our following, we make sure to tend to the little things. On Pinterest for instance, we get emails about "Boards You May Be Interested In" and "Boards with Pins Similar to Yours." The most damaging myths that keep women from advancing
Forbes
There are five very damaging and misguided notions about what's in the way of women's success, and what we need to do differently, to ensure that by the end of this decade, we'll have moved the needle significantly (as other countries have done), to bring women to equality at work, in society, in the government and at home.

Female company president: 'I'm sorry to all the mothers I worked with'
Fortune
PowerToFly President Katharine Zaleski writes: I still am embarrassed by this memory. Five years ago I walked into an office on the 25th floor of the Manhattan headquarters of Time Inc. I was there to meet with Time.com's then managing editor and pitch a partnership idea, but once I took a seat and surveyed the endless photos of her small children spread across the airy space, I decided this editor was too much of a mother to follow up on the idea.

5 steps to create a compassionate workplace
The Huffington Post
Compassion, defined as sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others, is a trait we've always valued in our personal relationships. But how often is it discussed in terms of the workplace? Is the workplace meant to be a "dog-eat-dog" kind of experience where everyone is out for himself, never worrying about the woes of colleagues? Or, can compassion be helpful in most, if not all, workplaces?
