Women helping women — it's imperative, not a 'nice to do'
Forbes
I routinely get emails from women seeking advice on a range of professional issues, from how to start and gain leadership buy-in for a structured corporate responsibility program to how to advance to the next level in a career, Shannon Schuyler writes. I used to help those I could as time allowed — stealing a moment for one-off email responses in between meetings and flights. I see now that I wasn't giving these important questions — and the women who reached out to me — the time, structure and attention they deserved.

When bosses discriminate against pregnant women
The Atlantic
Two weeks after I returned from maternity leave to my job in Boston as a television-news producer, I found myself facing a demotion, Darlena Cunha writes. My bosses were kind, even apologetic. The move did not affect my pay and did not reduce my hours. Simply put: The man they had placed in my position during my leave was a better fit than I had been. Not being one to deal well with demotions, I left almost immediately, and eventually found a job in management. I didn't fault my employer. I had worked at the company during the most stressful time of my life.

4 difficult work personalities — and how to deal with them
By Caitlin Harrison
It goes without saying that if you don't like someone you have to work with, it's going to make your job harder — and possibly even slow productivity. Of course, it's important to remember that a perfect workplace doesn't exist, so naturally, the people won't be perfect either. With that in mind, here's a rundown of a few difficult personality types I've seen in the workplace over the years, along with a few tips on how best to deal with them.

Tips for your next networking event
Inc.
It's been said that it's who you know that counts, which is what makes networking so vital to succeeding in business. While most entrepreneurs tend to be creative, possess strong leadership skills and are extremely knowledgeable in their fields, a lack of soft skills can hold many of them back from breaking through to the next level. In fact, a study done by Harvard, Stanford and the Carnegie Foundation found that 85 percent of a person's success is based on their soft skills.

Design tips for building a small-business website
The Huffington Post
Many small businesses will turn to local developers when it comes to building their first business website, while others will rely on agencies or even step up and take on the challenge themselves. Today, we want to help those who're brave enough to be building their own website. Not everyone is able to afford expensive designer and developer work, but even then — it costs hundreds of times less to just learn a common Web development programming language and do all of the work yourself.

2 numbers: The gender pay gap
Newsweek
For decades now the pay gap between men and women has been debated in the United States. Does the gap really exist or can it be explained away by the choices women make in their education, careers and lifestyles? The pay gap is equal to the difference between median full-time earnings for men and women, according to figures collected each year from the Census Bureau.

10 ways to make the most of your career in your 20s
Fast Company
We've been called preadults, emerging adults, millennials, the lost decade. We're told our 20s are the "defining decade," and that 80 percent of life's most significant events take place by age 35. But women still only make between 66 to 91 cents to every man's $1, and only hold 4.8 percent of Fortune 500 CEO positions. To change that, we should Lean In, ask for the raise, but not be afraid to start at the bottom. Maybe while we're at it, we should choose a husband while we're still in college.
