How to stand out in your next meeting
By Deborah Wipf
Communication isn't just what we say. It’s how we say something — our tone of voice and our nonverbal cues, including facial expressions and body language. Sometimes our nonverbal cues can betray our intended message. One example that sticks out to me involves our beloved cellphones. Let's face it; we're addicted to those things. Don't believe me? If you've ever experienced that moment of panic when you couldn't locate your phone, you're addicted. Used properly, mindfulness can also make our risk management more effective. The 3 P's of employee terminations
By D. Albert Brannen
The vast majority of employment-related lawsuits follow the termination of an employee. Employers can minimize their legal liability by considering the "three P's" of employee terminations: people, procedures and paperwork. By involving the right people, following the right processes and considering all the relevant paperwork, employers can effectively minimize their exposure to legal claims that may arise from the termination of employees.

In WikiWorship, church members help edit the sermon
Church Executive
Turning part of the message over to church members is the concept behind a new worship model called WikiWorship. Yes, that’s wiki as in Wikipedia. It was developed by the Rev. Philip Chryst, pastor of a United Methodist mission in Wilmington, as part of an evangelism course when he was finishing his degree at Duke Divinity School. He’s using it as part of a Lenten series at 9:45 a.m. each Sunday through April 13 in the bar called Hell’s Kitchen.

Osteen illustrates nondenominationalizing of US religion, says church historian
ADPnews
Joel Osteen is either the future of American evangelicalism or an illustration of its captivity to a form of religion more akin to American enterprise than Christian theology, says Bill Leonard. Osteen manages to be ''modern and postmodern, traditional and experimental, in his approach to the church and the gospel itself,” and his congregation may represent a bridge between how American evangelicalism has reached one generation and what it may become as it attempts to reach the next, said Leonard, the James and Marilynn Dunn Professor of Baptist Studies and professor of church history at Wake Forest University School of Divinity.

High performance is not the same as high potential
Inc.
If your company is like most, you probably identify your next leaders from a pool of your top performers. They might be salespeople or project managers or skilled developers, but in any event, they've got a reputation for delivering results. Stong performance and the results it carries are all well and good, of course, but it does not necessarily indicate that an employee will make a good leader. And according to research from member-based executive team advisory company CEB, companies are seriously hurting themselves by failing to differentiate between performance and potential.
