Associated Baptist Press    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
While "summer missions" is an icon of the evangelical landscape, orientation of 14 young people at Meredith College in Raleigh, N.C., signaled a unique missions collaboration between the Alliance of Baptists and the United Church of Christ. The two religious bodies are collaborating in identifying, recruiting and training volunteers and placing them in host congregations of five cities that affiliate with one or the other body. All hosts are involved in "integrative" community ministries that extend the church beyond the walls and into the lives of hurting people. More

The Boston Globe    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
During the first Sunday service since three tornadoes ravaged central and western Massachusetts, worshipers at the First Church of Monson Congregational packed the nave to hear a message of hope and community. Volunteers have used the church as a relief hub, keeping it open round-the-clock to provide free food, clothing and guidance. And during the Sunday service, the church also gave the weary a quiet place to relax, reflect and be thankful. More

Church confronts AIDS — but often timidly
United Methodist News Service    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
"All individuals living with HIV and AIDS should be treated with dignity and respect" is one United Methodist Social Principle. Since the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention identified AIDS 30 years ago, many United Methodist churches have tried to live out this principle by opening hearts, minds and doors to people living with AIDS. Prayer forms basis for effective evangelism
Texas Baptist Communications via the Baptist Standard    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Revival begins when Christians allow God to work in their hearts, according to leaders of a new prayer-based evangelism model.
