Church Attendance Beneficial to Marriage, Researcher Says

Married couples who attend church together tend to be happier than couples who rarely or never attend services, according to sociologist W. Bradford Wilcox of the University of Virginia. Using three nationally representative surveys - the General Social Survey (GSS), the National Survey of Families and Households (NSFH), and the National Survey of Family Growth (NSFG) - Wilcox found that married church-going Americans across denominational and racial classifications were more likely to describe themselves as "very happy" than their non-religious counterparts. Church Fuels Its Faith by Giving Away Gas

Southbridge Fellowship, a nondenominational church in Raleigh, N.C., chose to fuel its shining light with free gas Sunday, giving away $4,000 worth of fuel. "We just wanted to give back," said Jim Hendren, one of dozens of orange-clad volunteers who pumped gas and washed windows for 200 lucky drivers.
