Is social media working for your church?
By Mark MacDonald
There are many who are blessed to stand in a crowd, but they have little worthwhile to say. And there are those with important messages to say, but they don't find themselves in a crowd that they can influence. Both situations are a shame. We're blessed to live in a time where we can attract or grow an online social media community. Sadly, some churches don't have the right content to engage them. Other churches have a difficult time getting a following. Getting the crowd and the correct content at the same time is why a social media campaign is important.

How about online marketing for your church?
ChurchMag
Have you thought about online marketing for your church? This very idea for some pastors and ministry leaders is plain heresy. Many people have a negative mindset when having this conversation, and most will not move on their stance even when given a rational argument. For those that may buy into this, their first challenge is to create great content. This is not a church exclusive problem, but it is one we need to overcome.

Want more visitors? It has to get personal
Outreach Magazine
Have you ever had that nagging feeling that no one was really listening to you? Maybe it was a meeting or a conversation with your kids or (gasp!) a Sunday message. But no matter how great a communicator you are, all of us have been unheard. Churches are no exception. They have a message for the community but wonder if anyone is listening. So what do we do?

House to vote on bill to encourage charitable giving
The Chronicle of Philanthropy
The House will likely pass a bill on July 17 that is designed to encourage donations to charities. The bill would reduce the foundation excise tax from 2 percent to 1 percent and extend the tax benefits of giving food to charity and donating land for conservation. It also would allow people over 70 1/2 years old to reduce their taxable income when they roll over funds from their Individual Retirement Accounts to charities and extend the deadline for claiming a charitable tax deduction from the end of December until tax day, April 15.

8 things the church needs to say
Religion News Service
If Christians stopped bickering about church, presenting sex as a first-order concern, telling other people how to lead their lives and lending our name to minor-league politicians, what would we have to say? We need to figure that out before we get tired of ourselves. Who wants to devote life and loyalty to a religion that debates trifles and bullies the outsider?

Futuristic church with 12-lane bowling alley, 7 giant domes and an observation tower opens its doors to the public
al.com
Faith Chapel Christian Center in Wylam, Alabama, looks a little bit like a futuristic alien colony, with its seven giant domes. One of them is a 12-lane bowling alley called Tuscany Lanes, with streetlamps and Tuscan-style arches. A church with a bowling alley? Absolutely, said Founding Pastor Michael D. Moore, who grew up within walking distance of the church campus.

Want to love your job? Church can help, study says
Christianity Today
If they can be tempted away from their workplaces to worship, churches can make parishioners happier with their jobs, new research shows. Regular attenders who frequent a church that teaches God is present at your workplace, work is a mission from God, or that faith can guide work decisions and practices is a good sign for your career, according to a recent study from Baylor University.

2 key points to help overcome the online giving hurdle
Church Tech Today
In meetings with pastors, administrators and elder boards about the impact that online giving can have in their churches, there is one question that comes up more frequently than any other: "Why should we be paying 1 – 3 percent in processing fees for donations we could be getting for free?" This is a valid and important question, but "donations we could be getting for free" misses two key points.

How to escape from a bad game
Faith and Leadership
In the world of game theory, the game is always more important than the players. Otherwise good and moral people caught in a bad game will often fail to live into the people that they know they have been called to be. (And otherwise selfish and obdurate people in a good game will often act with more generosity and cooperation than the people they typically allow themselves to be.) Most leaders know what it is like to be part of a bad game.

5 management strategies to avoid
Inc.
There's no magic formula for being a great boss. It's a confusing mixture of providing both constructive criticism and praise, overseeing performance without micromanaging and hoping your employees like you — and respect you, too. Plus, every team is different in size, personalities, responsibilities and skill level — so if you're looking to become a better manager, there's probably no one-size-fits-all approach.
