OSHA Announces Top 10 Violations for 2014

From Sept. 23: The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has announced the preliminary Top 10 most frequently cited workplace safety violations for fiscal year 2014. Hazard communication was second only to fall protection in the number of violations recorded.

Man Charged with Illegal Hazardous Materials Transportation

From Nov. 25: A Baker, Montana, man accused of illegally transporting hazardous materials from North Dakota to Eastern Montana has denied the federal charges, which allege he hauled hazardous materials without placards and lacked proper transportation documents.

EPA Fines Company for General Duty Clause, Other Violations

From Aug. 5: Last week, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reached a settlement with AllenCo Energy, Inc., requiring the company to pay $99,000 for violations of the Clean Air Act General Duty Clause, the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act, and Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasures regulations. This penalty is in addition to the ongoing work identified in an April 2014 consent agreement with the EPA.

Wal-Mart Fined $100 Million Over Illegal Dumping of Hazardous Waste

From Sept. 23: The country's largest retailer has pleaded guilty to six counts of violating the Clean Water Act. The retailer was found guilty and fined over $110 million for the illegal disposing of fertilizer, bleach and pesticide compounds into the sewer system, among other environmental violations.

OSHA Says Mixture Ingredients with Health Hazards at or above Concentration Limits Must Be Listed on SDSs

From July 22: The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has issued a letter of interpretation clarifying that ingredients of chemical mixtures must be listed for products containing a sensitizer above the cut-off value/concentration limit. These ingredients must be listed in Section 3 of the Safety Data Sheet even though the mixture itself is not a sensitizer.
