    New Blog Post: NACD Welcomes the Surface Transportation Board Reauthorization Act of 2015
    Last week, U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation Chairman John Thune (R-SD) and Ranking Member Bill Nelson (D-FL) introduced the Surface Transportation Board Reauthorization Act of 2015 (S. 808), a bipartisan STB reform bill. The bill would provide the STB with the tools it needs to be a more efficient and effective agency and is a very important step in the effort to promote access to competitive freight rail service and provide a more efficient venue to address rate and service issues between railroads and their customers.

    CEF Went to the White House!
    On Monday, 13-year-old Audrey Gallier, the 2014 National You Be The Chemist Challenge® Champion attended this year's White House Science Fair as an honored guest. Additionally, Audrey was invited to participate in a special student roundtable discussion with senior White House leadership about women and girls in STEM. At the fair, she was able to view student projects, mingle with other young scientists, meet President Barack Obama and more. She was even chosen to stand behind the podium with a small group of other students while the president gave a speech in the East Room of the White House! Afterward, Audrey said: "I learned that kids can actually make a difference with science." This is the first year that a National Challenge Champion has been invited to the prestigious White House event.

    Maryland Chemical Company Volunteers at Local Chemistry Competition
    On March 24, students in Montgomery County, Maryland, took part in their Local You Be The Chemist Challenge® competition — with some special guest volunteers! As middle school students showed off their impressive knowledge of chemistry, the competition rolled smoothly along thanks to the efforts of volunteers from Maryland Chemical Company Inc., including its president, Jeanette Glose Partlow. Last November, Partlow was named the 2014 Distributor of the Year by NACD, and Maryland Chemical Company is the first official sponsor of the Maryland State Challenge. Thanks to Maryland Chemical Company for their support of this successful event!

    NACD Members Invited to Chemical Facility Outreach Workshop
    The FBI Washington Field Office and FBI Weapons of Mass Destruction Directorate have extended an invitation to NACD members to a Chemical Facility Outreach Workshop on April 2, at Quantico Marine Base in Quantico, Virginia. The workshop will consist of a variety of briefings to familiarize participants with FBI assets and programs and will include discussions on industry-specific FBI intelligence, explosive pre-cursor chemicals, improvised explosives, the WMD Coordinator Program, and a review of available outreach materials.
