The Western Region Meeting is one month away on April 22-26, but the deadline to reserve your hotel rooms at the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel is this Sunday, March 30. On March 25, grade 5-8 students in the San Antonio area tested their hard-won knowledge of chemistry and chemical safety at their local You Be The Chemist Challenge®. After months of studying, participants were excited to show off their skills and compete for prizes and the opportunity to advance to the Texas State Challenge in April. The winner of the state competition will advance to the National You Be The Chemist Challenge® in Philadelphia this June.

The event took place thanks to the generous sponsorship of Brenntag Southwest, the Houston Chemical Association, Bossco Industries, Raw Materials Corporation and Shell Chemical Company.

Know a K-8 educator looking for science lessons to use around Earth Day? Here's a list from the American Chemical Society (ACS) of eye-popping podcasts, leafy lessons and fun ways for students to dip their toes into this year's ACS Earth Day theme "The Wonders of Water."

That's one of the conclusions drawn by Cisco in its recently released February 2014 threat metrics report, where the company assessed statistics compiled by the Cisco Computer Security Incident Response Team about how often users protected by Cisco Cloud Web Security were likely to encounter malware.
