Regulatory update: House energy and commerce leaders ask EPA to withdraw IUR rule

House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton, R-Mich., and Environment and the Economy Subcommittee Chairman John Shimkus, R-Ill., have sent a letter to the Office of Management and Budget urging withdrawal of the Environmental Protection Agency's sweeping rule to amend the Toxic Substances Control Act Inventory Update Reporting requirements. This rule would substantially increase the amount of information that chemical manufacturers and importers are required to report under the IUR. More

On March 31, Senator Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., introduced S. 709, the Secure Chemical Facilities Act, to make changes to the current Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards program, including a requirement for all facilities to consider the use of inherently safer technologies and for those in the highest risk tiers to implement the inherently safer technologies. Rail carload volume hits highest level since late '08

The latest bulk and large-unit railcar loadings at major U.S. freight railroads were the highest since late 2008, or before the traffic plunge that followed the financial collapse that year.
