Legislative Update — NACD Applauds Committee Approval of STB Reform Legislation
NACD President Eric R. Byer issued this statement on the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation's recent approval of S. 2777, the Surface Transportation Board (STB) Reauthorization Act of 2014, which provides simple improvements to the STB to make it a more timely, efficient, and equitable regulatory agency.

Legislative Update — Congress Passes Funding Bill, Leaves Town for Elections
Last Thursday, the Senate approved the House-passed resolution authorizing the arming and training of Syrian rebels in language tucked in to a short-term funding bill to keep the federal government open. Both the authorization and the funding expire on Dec. 11, ensuring that Congress will revisit both issues when lawmakers return for a lame-duck session.

Regulatory Update — PHMSA Requests Input on Emergency Response Guidebook Changes

OSHA Announces Top 10 Violations for 2014

The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has announced the preliminary Top 10 most frequently cited workplace safety violations for fiscal year 2014. Hazard communication was second only to fall protection in the number of violations recorded.

Wal-Mart Fined $100 Million Over Illegal Dumping of Hazardous Waste

Business Groups 'Alarmed' by New OSHA Rules for Workplace Accidents

Business groups are up in arms over a new rule from the Obama administration that would require companies to report more workplace injuries. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration published a rule that requires companies to report within 24 hours all work-related injuries that lead to an employee being hospitalized.
