NACD 2012 Get Out the Vote: Be prepared for Election Day

NACD is providing a wealth of information for you to prepare to vote this November, regardless of political affiliation. Register to vote, find your local races or browse races by state before elections on Tuesday, November 6, with NACD's online tool. The NACD 2012 Election Guide provides members, employees and supporters of the industry a resource for background information on candidates, how those candidates have voted on issues important to NACD and more. Regulatory Input Needed: DHS to hold conference call for NACD members this Thursday on CFATS Personnel Surety Program

This Thursday, October 18, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security will hold a conference call to seek NACD member input on the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards Personnel Surety Program. The call will take place from 11 a.m. — 12 p.m. noon Eastern time.

The agency is seeking to reissue its PSP proposal later this month and is seeking input directly from NACD and other groups, asking for suggested proposals related to the CFATS Personnel Surety Program that are able to be implemented within the existing climate, proposals that cannot be implemented within the existing climate but could offer a better long-term solution and any other suggestions or concerns.

If you are unable to participate but have comments on the aforementioned items, please send them to Jennifer as soon as possible.

State Regulatory Update: NACD comments on California regulations

Last week, NACD filed comments with the California Department of Toxic Substances Control expressing concerns about the state's proposed Safer Consumer Products Regulations.

The scope and complexity of the latest proposal is of grave concern to the chemical and many other industries. NACD's comments reflect these concerns and also address the amount of latitude given to the DTSC in designing the rules, the lack of prioritization of chemicals subject to alternatives assessments, the huge costs of the proposal if enacted and the lack of economic analysis on the impacts of the proposal.

  • Regulatory Update: DOT clarifies FMCSRs

    On October 1, the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration published a final rule in the Federal Register to correct and clarify certain provisions in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. The final rule makes technical corrections throughout title 49 CFR subtitle B, chapter III. The rule includes minor editorial changes to add revised delegations of authority from the Secretary of Transportation, correct errors and omissions and improve clarity. The rule is effective immediately. More

    Regulatory Update: FMCSA comments on recent CSA report

    In response to a recent report from the American Transportation Research Institute about the Compliance, Safety, Accountability program, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has issued a statement confirming the effectiveness of the CSA program.

    The ATRI report found that scores in the CSA Driver Fitness Behavior Analysis and Safety Improvement Category do not bear a statistical correlation to crash risk, but that other portions of CSA are working as intended. FMCSA stated that ATRI's findings confirm the effectiveness of the CSA program and counter some previous analyses that challenged its effectiveness.
