DoD assesses
corrosion potential on F-35 and F-22
CorrDefense Share
The U.S. Department of Defense Corrosion Policy and Oversight Office, under Director Daniel J. Dunmire,
submitted a full corrosion-related assessment of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter to Congress. As part of its study, the DoD Corrosion Office also analyzed a host of corrosion-related findings on the F-22A Raptor aircraft and the implications of those findings for the F-35 (also known as the F-35 Lightning II). Congress directed the DoD to perform the study as part of the 2010 National Defense Authorization Act. More

Canada's sewer pipe inspection improves along with technology
Journal of Commerce

Although they aren't a visible part of the public infrastructure, Canada's sewer systems are important.
And, like crumbling roads and bridges, sewer pipe is subject to wear and tear that needs to be maintained. Ashley Rammeloo, a sewer operations engineer in Canada, said the typical life span of concrete sewer pipe is between 80 and 100 years, although there is brick pipe in Ontario that is 150 years old.

Data miners dig for corrosion resistance
Penn State
Live

A better understanding of corrosion resistance may be possible using a data-mining tool, according to Penn State material scientists. This tool may also aid research in other areas where massive amounts of information exist. Kamrun Nahar, research associate, Center for Neural Engineering, along with Mirna
Urquidi-Macdonald, professor of engineering science and mechanics, used data mining to find the most relevant information about the corrosion-resistant properties of Alloy 22, an alloy candidate for nuclear-waste canisters. They reported their findings in the latest issue of Corrosion Science.
