The value of trade associations for professional contractors
by Greg Hartmann, National Account Manager
Do you belong to any trade associations? A few of the organizations with the greatest relevance to FastenMaster would be NADRA, NARI, and NAHB. I do belong to trade associations and have found the benefits to be far greater than what I had in mind when I signed up. As a sales person working for a manufacturer, I know that by joining an association of builders I have the opportunity to connect with the people that use the products I sell. For me the value I receive is far greater than the annual fee I pay. For builders the value can be even greater. Financially it is in your best interest to belong to the trade associations representing your business. These organizations are made up of members at the core of your business and can bring you many benefits.

What it takes to be a successful decking seller
Fiberon via Building Products
Bill Ross writes: Because of my background as an owner, builder, distributor and manufacturer, as well as immediate past president of the North American Deck & Rail Association, I am frequently asked, “What does it take, as a dealer, to be really successful in selling decking?” The question can be translated to: “What does it take to win?”

Trex had the benefits of a monopoly, along with the arrogance that almost killed it. Ron Kaplan saved the synthetic-decking pioneer by treating it like a startup. Add some great furniture to the great outdoors
The Associated Press via Odessa American
Outdoor living spaces have come a long way from the days when “outdoor furnishings” meant a few inexpensive folding chairs around a flimsy plastic table. Today’s outdoor chairs might be wrought iron or wrought aluminum, with upholstered seats. The table might be stone or wood or an elegant faux version of either, and would not look out of place inside in the dining room.

LEADERSHIP

The rapid rise of video in content marketing
By Mayur Kisani
Online video is quickly becoming the primary way for people to consume content. The value of video marketing and advertising is measured by the attention it receives, which is its currency. Today, online video has more eyeballs and attention of the audience, compared to TV. It is getting harder for brands to reach their target audience on TV. With that in mind, small businesses should include video in their Internet marketing strategies or risk falling behind.
