This is a four-part series, which includes four core building code courses and provides a comprehensive explanation of how the 2009 and 2012 International Residential Code regulates deck construction, from initial design to project completion. These courses support the North American Deck and Railing Association's Master Deck Builder Certification program and are intended to prepare the audience for the four exams, respective to each course, that are required for NADRA member's to earn their MDB Certification. NADRA is launching the first two courses in March, April and May.

Composite manufacturers roll out new decking
As deck season approaches, manufacturers of composite deck boards are introducing new products — or expanding and improving old ones. Advanced Environmental Technologies Inc. is the proud parent of NanoShield, the first composite deck board to incorporate nanotechnology. The Springdale, Ark., company developed the new product in partnership with NanoMech, Fayetteville, Ark. The process bonds inorganic nanoparticles to treated wood particles to form a durable shell of similar composition. More

How to organize a 'social media war room' and rule the Internet for a day
eVenues Blog Share
The concept of a social media war room is simple: You get 10 to 20 of your friends, arm them with laptops and have them blast your message to as many Internet and media influencers as possible: The twitterati, the blogerati and the linkerati. The Seattle startup Giant Thinkwell used social media war room tactics to promote their "Mix-and-Match" Facebook game, featuring rap legend Sir Mix-A-Lot to great success. In fact, with just a day and some 20 people, they managed to get 9 percent of all Twitter users to receive at least one tweet or message about Sir Mix-A-Lot and his game. More
Why the front row sucks — the value of taking a seat in the back
Business 2 Community Share
Sure, it's close to the action ... but is it the best seat in the house? Why else would the front-row seats to anything be more expensive ... You can see the artist better ... but can you see the show? In almost every business, once we get too close, we lose big-picture perspective. And when we lose that perspective, we risk falling out of touch. No matter what vocation you have chosen, and no matter how passionate you are, when you lose touch with the client, consumer, fan, voter or any other passerby who might have been a potential customer — your business is doomed to fail. Watch from the front row and that is exactly what you are risking. More
Why we're all suddenly obsessed with Pinterest
Fast Company Share

That said, the site's growth was fairly flat from its launch in early 2010 until September 2011. But since then, it's simply been going gangbusters, begging the question — why now? Here are three reasons why Fast Company think it's become so attractive. More
