NADRA launches another first-ever industry event!
We want to take a minute to thank all of our sponsors and those who attended the NADRA events in Providence, R.I., last week. NADRA was "in the house" and we were rocking! This was a first for our industry, and with the success of this one, it certainly will not be the last. We have three more courses to follow in the series to become a Master Deck Builder and dates will be announced in the months ahead. Keep in mind; these classes are for more than just the builder. Everyone should be on deck for the opportunity to attend. The NADRA education series is going to change our industry and we want you to be there with us as we do. More
NADRA WWA Chapter honors Washington soldier and family
NADRA recently announced the official plans and build schedule for their Deck For a Soldier® project. The Western Washington Chapter will break ground on March 25. Construction will be completed in time for a ribbon cutting ceremony, to be held on Memorial Day, May 30.
SSG Marshall Diaz has been honorably serving his country for 13 years and is currently in Active Duty. During his last deployment to Afghanistan, he was wounded and medically evacuated back to the U.S. From May 2008 until April 2010, SSG Diaz was in the Warrior Transition Battalion located at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. SSG Marshall was honored with a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart, as well as many other prestigious awards during his career. SSG Diaz also takes time to serve his local community by volunteering with the local Boy Scout Troops and still sets time to volunteer at a local veteran's home.
Western Washington NADRA members are humbled and honored to break ground for the west coast and know the deck could not have gone to a more deserving family.
More information about Deck for a Soldier can be found at www.NADRA.org.
Attention NADRA members: It's time to get creative!
We're pleased to announce our new Get Creative! recognition section. This is a chance for all NADRA builders to submit unique "add-on" projects that have been recently completed for a chance to be featured in the NADRA Industry Update. Your work will be broadcast to your colleagues all across the country and will give manufacturers an opportunity to see how their products are being used.
To submit an entry, you must be a NADRA builder member, and you need to submit the following information to Info@NADRA.org:

California redwood takes sustainability into communities
Building Products Digest Share
Redwood has long been favored for its unique color and natural durability. While redwood can hold its "like new" warm tones with a simple maintenance schedule, the fact that redwood can be virtually ignored and still age gracefully make it an ideal choice for outdoor projects that may be exposed to the elements over time. The right lighting can expand your outdoor living space
The Poughkeepsie Journal Share
A trend toward creating "outdoor rooms" has dramatically increased lighting options for homeowners who want to extend their time outside. Most indoor lighting fixtures — chandeliers, pendant lights, table lamps — now have a counterpart designed for patios or decks. More
Home owners see big value in remodeling
International Business Times Share
The do-it-yourself home improvement market has faced a 21 percent drop from 2005-2010, according to the latest research from market researcher Mintel. Yet, that's not due to lack of will on home owner's part, but more about lack of money, according to the survey. More than a quarter of DIYers surveyed said they would undertake a major home renovation or addition to their home if they had the funds. More
US small business lending continues to grow
U.S. small businesses lending grew in February from the year before for the 12th straight month, according to data released on Monday by PayNet Inc. According to a Reuters report, "Investment by businesses in the closely watched sector, which is considered a key driver of employment growth, fell, however, compared to the previous month for a second consecutive month, suggesting wavering confidence in the strength of the recovery and an unwillingness to invest in expansion, PayNet's president said." Calling all NADRA Deck Builders! Win tools and a playset for your next big deck project
MyFixitUpLife and Real Outdoor Living are giving away a rockin' kids' play-set. MyFixitUpLife designed it, you put it together. Whatever your angle, we'd love for you to check it out and tell us why you — or a community or bunch of kids you want to help — would like this Taj Ma' Prize! Just register to win at www.MyFixitUpLife.com/FreeStuff.
