Construction employment rises nationally

Now that the construction season in full swing, the U.S. Labor Department reports that payroll employment in the construction industry in March rose by 15,000 workers for the first gain in the sector since June 2007. The Associated General Contractors of America's chief economist Ken Simonson said the industry's unemployment rate dropped slightly from 27.1 percent in February to 24.9 percent in March, but remained more than double the all-industry level.
