Building material dealers looking to expand their deck sales can accomplish that goal while helping customers avoid future problems and even prevent injuries. By encouraging consumers to have their decks inspected and having contractors suggest an inspection during other work, dealers can tap into a large inventory of decks that need to be repaired or brought up to adequate structural-integrity levels.

The U.S. demand for decking is forecast to rise 2.7 percent per year to 3.5 billion lineal feet in 2014, valued at $6.2 billion. This pace will represent a rebound from the 2004-2009 period, when demand fell less than one percent annually, reflecting the collapse of the housing market between 2007 and 2009. Through 2014, decking demand gains will be driven by a rebound in housing completions from their low 2009 base. More
WOLF ramps up production of PVC decking

Construction spending in US rose 0.4 percent in April on home improvement gains
Construction spending in the U.S. rose in April for a second straight month as home-improvement expenditures increased along with construction of schools and power plants. The 0.4 percent gain followed a revised 0.1 percent increase in March that was smaller than previously estimated, Commerce Department figures showed today in Washington. The median estimate of economists in a Bloomberg survey projected a 0.3 percent increase. More
