NADRA New England Chapter meeting
NADRA Blog Share
Last week's meeting was truly an exciting occasion for the New England Chapter of NADRA, with a number of firsts for our young chapter. We kicked off the meeting with the introduction of the chapter's inaugural Deck for a Soldier® recipient and his family. It was a very special moment and the soldier was truly surprised when he was presented with the announcement and the design options for his new deck.
Many thanks to the chair of the D4S Committee – Ed Lenzi, and the committee members Otto Kinzel, Pete Ciaraldi, Seth Aronson, Scott Clifford and Marc Merusi. Ed and his team will be reaching out to the members of the chapter to bring this project to a special completion over the next several weeks. There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony once the project is complete – all members are invited – details to follow. More

Working in hot weather

Heat-related illness often does not receive as much attention as other workplace hazards and is often under reported. A high profile case of heat stroke was that of Korey Stringer, a 27-year-old member of the Minnesota Vikings football team. On Aug. 1, 2001, he collapsed and died after two and a half hours of practice in 90 degree heat. Many were shocked at how sudden and serious the consequences of heat exposure can be, but his tragic story brought to light a serious workplace hazard that concerns thousands of workers every year. Softwood lumber check-off program ok'd
Pro Sales Online Share
The softwood lumber industry voted to approve the creation of a check-off program whose assessments would generate millions of dollars annually, in large part to promote the use of softwood lumber, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced recently. The campaign would be akin to milk producers' "Got Milk?" campaign but would be directed at builders, architects, and others who influence choices of construction materials rather than at consumers. Construction materials costs set for a fall?
For Construction Pros Share
Although materials costs continued to accelerate in May, they may be about to hit the brakes. That's what futures markets and price reporting services are signaling, according to the Associated General Contractors Chief Economist Ken Simonson. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on June 14 that the producer price index for inputs to construction - a weighted average of the cost of all materials used in every type of project, plus items consumed by contractors, such as diesel fuel - climbed 0.9 percent, not seasonally adjusted, from April to May and 7.5 percent over 12 months.
