Attention inspectors: Deck inspection certification course — learn from the experts

Providing a thorough deck inspection is more than checking to see if it is properly attached to the home and railing is present. You as a NADRA (North American Deck and Railing) / ASHI Deck Inspector will have a great opportunity to expand your professional home inspection business you will be qualified to offer this important lifesaving service to your current and past clients. The eight-hour certification class will follow the most current 2009 IRC Deck Code book published by the ICC and NADRA. Upon the successful completion of the final exam and becoming an ASHI-NADRA Inspector Member (additional $100) you will receive your NADRA Deck Inspection Certification. Part One will cover the Existing Structure. The features on the exterior of a house, such as windows, overhead cables and dryer vents require certain considerations when in proximity to a deck or other walking surface. Numerous building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and fuel-gas systems must be considered when judging how effectively a deck works with a home.
Part Two will allow the home inspector the opportunity to assess the safety issues of a deck by employing the NADRA Deck Evaluation checklist.
After the program, the home inspector will understand how to analyze the following deck components and issues and more.

NADRA elects Westech National sales manager John F. Burkhart to board of directors
Members of the North American Deck and Railing Association unanimously elected John F. Burkhart, National Sales Manager for Westech Building Products, to the NADRA Board of Directors. The election at the recent 2014 NADRA Annual Meeting marked the start of Burkhart’s three-year term. The NADRA board manages the business, property and affairs of the association in support of the NADRA mission to promote and grow the deck and railing industry.

October US construction spending rises 1.1 percent to $971B rate

U.S. construction spending increased 1.1 percent in October to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $971 billion amid growing public-sector demand and continued modest growth in residential construction.
Softwood lumber prices fall in US
Prices for softwood lumber imported to China increased this fall, while they fell in Japan as the housing market weakened. In the U.S., lumber prices were moving downward in the Q3, while still being close to their highest levels in 10 years, reports the Wood Resource Quarterly.
