From June 11: A deck at an oceanfront inn on Pawleys Island, near tourist hotspot Myrtle Beach in South Carolina, collapsed while over 25 people attempted a selfie in front of a rainbow over the ocean. Over a dozen people have been injured.

Green redwood: Understanding the true environmental impact

From Feb. 19: As more and more Americans are becoming aware of the environmental footprint they have on society, they oftentimes make smarter, more informed decisions when purchasing products. A recent survey was commissioned, which asked homeowners about their choices for green decking material. Seventy-five percent of those surveyed said that it's important for their home's deck to be eco-friendly. Ninety percent believed a deck should be recycled and reused, not dumped in a landfill.

Overcoming price objections: How to turn bellyachers into believers

From Nov. 12: What do you say when they say you're too expensive? That's a vexing question for those who fear and fight the idea of price objections. For all too many business professionals, questions about their price cause anxiety at best, and a conviction that they have to cave in and slash their fees at worst. Business owners who play games with their price or futz with their fees at the first hint of resistance ignore a basic reality: price objections are a buying signal. Prospective customers have to be at least somewhat interested in your products and services to question their price.

US: Demand for wood-plastic composites forecast to grow

From Sept. 10: U.S. demand for wood-plastic composite and plastic lumber is forecast to rise 9.8 percent annually through 2018, according to a Freedonia market study. Demand is expected to reach $5.5 billion in 2018. In 2013, the market was worth $3.45 billion according to Freedonia.
