33rd NARFE National Convention underway in Orlando, Florida
NARFE
In addition to conducting Association business and electing national and regional officers, NARFE's legislative agenda for the next two years will be decided at the convention. Delegates also will attend training sessions on membership and marketing, grassroots advocacy, and service officer best practices. NARFE is posting daily reports from the National Convention on the NARFE convention page. You also can follow the convention on Twitter and Facebook. Closing ceremonies will take place Thursday.

Whether or not you are with us on-site in Orlando, all NARFE members can help strengthen NARFE's legislative clout on Capitol Hill by supporting NARFE-PAC! FERS TSP enrollment hits record high
Federal News Radio
Enrollment in the Thrift Savings Plan among employees under the Federal Employee Retirement System hit a record high in July. At its monthly board meeting in Washington, the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board announced that 87.5 percent of FERS employees are actively contributing to their TSP accounts. The percentage just surpasses the previous record high of 87.4 percent in January 2003. Enrollment dipped steadily after that and eventually hit a low of 81.5 percent during the recession in 2009.

Some lawmakers growing more receptive to BRAC

Despite an initial reluctance from lawmakers to authorize the Defense Department to conduct a new round of Base Realignment and Closure, some members of Congress are becoming more receptive to the idea. The Army plans to reduce its force to 490,000 by the end of fiscal 2015. But Katherine Hammack, assistant secretary of the Army for Installations, Energy and Environment, says shrinking forces won't be enough to match sequestration-level budgets.
