Music City Center nears halfway point

Crews on the site of the $600 million Music City Center are closing in on the halfway mark. Construction is now 45 percent complete. Senior Project Manager Larry Atema said it has been no easy undertaking. On any given day, he said there are 800 workers on the ground, working 10-15 hour days just to stay on schedule. More

Opry Mills mall issued $4 million in permits

Large building permits continue to stream from Opry Mills mall, where a number of repair projects are under way. Metro Nashville recently issued rehabilitation permits for landlord alteration work and for renovations to Rainforest Cafe. A grand opening celebration is planned for May. More

Medical trade mart inks first local firm

SpecialtyCare, a health services provider, has become the first local company to agree to lease space in the proposed Nashville Medical Trade Center project. SpecialtyCare plans an 8,500-square-foot showroom that would anchor the fifth floor of the proposed downtown medical mart to be built on the site of the current convention center. More

Sheryl Crow buys $5.2 million Nashville estate

Grammy Award-winning singer Sheryl Crow recently purchased a $5.2 million, 50-acre estate in the Forrest Hills area of Nashville. The purchase of the property off of Hillsboro Pike and an adjacent tract of land was recorded under the Joel William Vuylsteke Trust, according to Davidson County property records. More

Vanderbilt University has been named by Forbes as one of America's top 100 colleges. Forbes ranked Vanderbilt No. 53 in the nation, though its tuition — $56,634 — puts it in the same league as the country's top colleges. More

The show that made country music famous is now making its mark on okra fries, Tennessee cornbread salad, skillet fried chicken, pit-smoked Southern barbecue and signature desserts in a new restaurant, the Opry Backstage Grill. Recently during a grand opening event at the restaurant, 62-year Opry member Little Jimmy Dickens was presented with a chef's hat and named the restaurant's honorary executive chef. Dickens then toasted the crowd with a raised glass of the restaurant's specialty frozen dessert, the home-baked shake. More
