There's been a lot less room at local inns this summer, and the crush of visitors has provided a much-needed boost to the middle Tennessee economy. "We've had seven or eight months of growth," said Butch Spyridon, president of the Nashville Convention & Visitors Bureau. "To me, that says we're on the right path." In a remarkable tale of resilience, Gaylord Opryland hotel emerged from the May 2010 flood here more robust than before the sprawling hotel — known for its indoor boat tours and Christmas spectaculars — was swamped by disaster. Droid users have a new app on the Nashville music scene. The Nashville Live Music app launched by the Nashville Convention & Visitors Bureau has been available on the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad since early June. The Nashville Live Music app is the first citywide live music guide. It is designed to help visitors and locals locate live music venues throughout Music City. More



Holiday Inn Express to open most hotel rooms in US

Holiday Inn Express is the busiest hotel chain in the U.S. in terms of construction, with nearly 21,000 guest rooms expected to open between now and 2014. That's according to HotelNewsNow.com, which compiled the top 15 hotel chain list by ranking those with the most guest rooms in the U.S.'s active pipeline. More

US travel: Overseas visitor spending driving growth

The travel industry accounted for more than 1 in 9 jobs created in the U.S. economy through the first seven months of the year, as increased spending by overseas travelers and a relatively weak dollar contributed to the rebound in tourism spending. Through July, the travel industry added 106,000 jobs, or more than 11 percent of the U.S. jobs created to date in 2011, according to the U.S. Travel Association. More
