The Union Station Hotel in downtown Nashville has been selected as part of the Marriott's Autograph Collection, the first hotel in Tennessee to receive the distinction from the hotel chain. Hotels in the Marriott's Autograph Collection appear in travelers' search queries on the company's website and receive promotions in Marriott email letters. More

More expected to travel on Thanksgiving

More Americans will travel over the Thanksgiving holiday this year, according to projections from AAA Auto Club South. More than 42.5 million U.S. residents will travel 50 or more miles from home, a 4 percent increase from 2010. And more of those travelers will be driving with 38.2 million expected to travel via automobile, also a 4 percent increase from last year. More

Canadian billionaire and reality television show host W. Brett Wilson recently joined the Nashville Predators local ownership group, the team announced. Even though Wilson hails from Canada, where the Predators were rumored to be relocating in 2007, he said he owns a home in Nashville and regularly conducts business here. Wilson will hold a 5 percent interest in the team. More

For years, the Nashville Farmers' Market has been planning an ambitious project — launching a new kitchen within the market, manned by a vibrant chef who could cook up fun classes and demos (including recruiting other chefs to share their knowledge), assist the market's farmers and retail vendors, educate the public about how local veggies and meats can enrich their cooking, and generally serve as the friendly face of the downtown market. Thanksgiving Day holiday travelers shouldn't get gouged at the pump this year. While the price of crude oil recently passed $100 a barrel, but settled back below that, gasoline prices continue to fall on lower demand levels, according to AAA Auto Club South. The price of oil has inched up week after week, but gasoline demand is 3.6 percent less than in 2010 and that has kept prices from rising. More

Recently, dozens of Nashville taxi drivers — primarily Ethiopian-Americans who have come to depend on the cab industry for employment — met to put the final touches on a novel idea. Held at an ironic venue given the inability of cab drivers to unionize, discussions centered on the business structure for Volunteer Taxi, a proposed startup company aimed at chipping away at the monopoly dominated by Nashville's five existing taxi corporations.
