Iowa Sweats Out Final to Win NCAA Wrestling Title
from USA TODAY
Top-ranked Iowa won the team title at the NCAA Division I wrestling championships in St. Louis, but the Hawkeyes' victory came by a slim and suspenseful margin after their top star, 149-pounder Brent Metcalf, was upset in the finals. Iowa, which did not have an individual champion in any of the 10 weight classes, finished with 96.5 team points, followed by Ohio State with 92. More

Complete NCWA Championships Recap, Plus Notes

One Wrestler Stands Apart from the Rest
from St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Behind the flailing arms, twisted torsos and puffy ears of the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships at Scottrade Center, Arizona State sophomore Anthony Robles was the most noticeable wrestler in the building. The inspiring Robles, just one of the many stories to be told and conversations to be had at the first of three days of the NCAA event, has never let the missing limb hold him back. In fact, early in his youth, his mother obtained a prosthetic for him. Robles used the artificial limb for less than a year before discarding it. More

Wrestlers for Attention with March Madness
from USA TODAY
College wrestling's biggest weekend had a tough chance of making a splash beyond the confines of the sport's niche appeal. Not against the start of the real March Madness. Coaches of some of the top programs have recognized that truth for years. They'd just as soon avoid the NCAA basketball tournament that captivates the nation in the future, perhaps making wrestling an exclusively second-semester sport with the title decided in April. More

Cornell's Nickerson Wins NCAA Title; Big Red Finishes Fifth
from The Ithaca Journal
Robert Nickerson always told his son he could ride any opponent for 30 seconds if he had to do it to win a big match. Cornell junior Troy Nickerson proved it by holding down former champion Paul Donahoe of Edinboro in the final half of the tiebreaker for a 2-1 win in the 125-pound NCAA final at the Scottrade Center. Old Dominion: Williams' Rise to Wrestling Stardom Earns Coach's Praise
from The Virginian-Pilot
It was the highest compliment - honest. Coming from coach Steve Martin, it was a ringing endorsement. Really. So maybe it came out wrong, sounding more like a slam. But in Martin's weird world of wrestling, this assessment of Old Dominion senior Ryan Williams passes for effusive praise. More
