Message from the NFAIS Executive Director:

Jignesh Bhate, Molecular Connections, and Suzanne BeDell, Elsevier Science & Technology Books

Instead of my profile photo this week, I share the smiling faces of our NFAIS members who attended the 2015 NFAIS Annual Conference, Anticipating Demand: The User Experience As Driver. In fact, in this week's issue of NFAIS Advances, we look back at highlights from the conference. Check out conference photos, presenter slides, a complete Storify collection of all the #NFAIS15 tweets, or Angela Cochran’s blog in this week’s The Scholarly Kitchen, who wrote, “This is an assembly of some of the best and brightest when it comes to organizing, displaying, and exposing information on the Web. I had no idea what I was in for but all through the conference I was scrawling notes and frantically tweeting.”

Our member poll this month features one of the questions posed to conference attendees, and now we’re asking you – which enhancement would be of greatest value to the researchers served by your product or services? Click here to cast your vote.

We hope you enjoy this week’s issue of NFAIS Advances! As always, we welcome your feedback on ways we can make NFAIS most helpful to you.

Marcie Granahan
Executive Director

    Re-re-thinking the integrated library system
    Discovery PULSE
There's been much ado about the "next-generation" integrated library system. Often coined a "library services platform," the re-imagined ILS promises an open platform, using APIs that move libraries away from a print-centric approach towards one that better accommodates digital content. Fundamentally of course, libraries are about serving their users. So, does the new library services platform improve the user experience for the library community? Or, in other words, how does the new platform truly address patron needs in today’s digital age?
