IRS delays start of tax filing season to Jan. 30

The Internal Revenue Service said it will begin accepting 2012 tax filings on Jan. 30, eight days later than originally planned, meaning millions of early-filing taxpayers will have to wait until February at the earliest for a refund. More than 120 million households should be able to start filing tax returns on Jan. 30, the agency said. More

Fear about gun legislation pushed firearm sales to record high last month

Gun sales reached at least a 14-year high last month, according to a widely used, if imperfect, measure. The FBI processed 2.78 million background checks through its national database (NICS), meaning last month was the busiest month ever for gun-sellers since NICS began in 1998. Fresno, Calif., police are busting pawnshops allegedly buying stolen gold. The Fresno Gold Stop was one of three pawnshops busted recently. Police recovered thousands of dollars worth of gold in the sting operation. Police arrested the owners of the three businesses and charged them all with intentionally accepting stolen gold.
