Wells Fargo & Co. and U.S. Bancorp are dropping their deposit advance products, payday-like loans with annual percentage rates over 200 percent, bowing to pressure from bank regulators and criticism from consumer advocates that the loans are a debt trap.

Rick Harrison comes off as gruff on his TV show, Pawn Stars, but he showed a sweeter, softer side of his personality in a note he wrote to a young fan. Harrison, 48, who runs the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop in Las Vegas, got a fan letter from a young boy with autism and he was so touched by the note that he responded.

Pawnshops in Genesee County, Mich., may have to enter items into online database so police can track stolen goods

Police chiefs across Genesee County, Mich., are pushing a plan to have pawnshops, scrap dealers and others that deal in second-hand goods to record their transactions in an online database so police can track stolen items. Pawnshops and other second-hand businesses already are required to obtain information from the people they buy items from.

Woman pawns car, collects insurance money after reporting it stolen, according to police in West Palm Beach, Fla.

First, police said, Lindela Edmonds pawned her car at Queen of Pawns in West Palm Beach, Fla. The next day the 44-year-old Edmonds, called up police to report the 2007 Toyota Camry stolen from a parking lot, according to a West Palm Beach police arrest report.

Man charged with pawning 27 guns, jewelry stolen from Bradenton, Fla., home
Bradenton Herald
A Sarasota, Fla., man was arrested after deputies say he pawned items that were stolen from a Bradenton, Fla., home his friend was staying at, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office. Thomas Jake Leggett was arrested Jan. 10 and charged with 10 counts of defrauding a pawnbroker and 22 counts of dealing in stolen property, according to an arrest report.
