First Cash reports record 4Q net income

First Cash Financial Services booked record earnings for the fourth quarter and for the full year as a troubled U.S. economy boosted traffic at its pawnshops and new locations were opened in Mexico, the pawnshop operator said. Fourth quarter net income was $19.56 million, or 62 cents a share, compared to $14.99 million, or 49 cents, during the same period last year. More

History's reality series Pawn Stars and American Pickers found audience treasure Monday night (Jan. 24), with each show securing audience records and leading the network to cable's best ratings performance for the evening. Pawn Stars, which follows a family-run pawnshop in Las Vegas, drew a network record 7 million total viewers and 3.7 million adults 18-49 during its 10:30 episode, according to History officials. More

Gold eases as Egypt rally loses steam

Gold eased after posting its largest daily gain in eight weeks and while the market did encounter some safe-haven buying on the back of the unrest in Egypt, this was expected to be temporary. Gold is set for its worst monthly performance since December 2009, driven down by the improving tone of some key U.S. economic data, growing investor confidence and a near-record decline in holdings of metal in exchange-traded funds. Police say a Boston man picked the wrong mark when he tried to sell him fake gold jewelry at a grocery store. The man approached William Pace and offered to sell him a bracelet and chain marked as 14 karat gold for $100. Two problems — Pace is the police chief in Randolph, Mass., and he owns a jewelry store. Any time a Egg Harbor Township, N.J., shop purchases a precious metal item, it will be required to take a digital photo of it, record a description of the jewelry, and take down the identification information of the seller, Police Chief Michael Morris said. That information would be sent instantly to the Police Department. More
