ATF assisting after firearms taken in Washington pawnshop robbery

Federal authorities are assisting after guns were stolen from a Washington pawnshop. Police say around 8:30 a.m. two armed men came into Washington Coins and Pawn and began removing firearms and other items. There were three employees inside at the time. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is assisting Washington police with their investigation.

Tequila turned into diamonds

Farmers in Mexico have been given another reason to grow agave, the cactus-like plant used to produce the country's most potent export. In the bar room equivalent of alchemy, scientists have turned shots of tequila into diamonds. The surprise use for the national tipple emerged when researchers at the National Autonomous University experimented with making ultra-thin films of diamond from organic solutions, such as acetone and ethanol.

$100,000 in precious gems stolen from traveling dealer's car in Washington state

At 79, the traveling gem dealer still works his territory. His beat brought the Oregon man to Everett, Washington, in January. And it was at a motel where he lost his life savings. His fortune, he told police, was invested in a small box containing diamonds, rubies and sapphires. Their estimated value is $100,000 and they were not insured, according to court papers.

3 arrested in string of armed pawnshop robberies

Three men have been arrested and charged in a string of armed pawnshop robberies in Harris County. According to Harris County Sheriffs, Alonzo Dewayne Flowers, 22; Jerrieus Williams, 30; and Paul McCoy, 22, are accused of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon for three January incidents.

Pawning valuables no big deal for young Asians

Wearing a black football jersey, bright red sneakers and a pair of trendy headphones around his neck, student Leonard Lee walked confidently into a pawnshop in Toa Payoh Central and placed a silver Seiko watch on the counter. "I'd like to pawn this, please," the 19-year-old told the staff. About 10 minutes later, he walked out with a pawn ticket to join his girlfriend of the same age, who had been looking at second-hand jewelery in the shop's display cabinets.

New Hampshire man accused of pawning goods stolen from pawnshop
New Hampshire Union Leader
A Nashua, New Hampshire, man is accused of pawning items, allegedly stolen from a pawnshop where his wife worked, at other local pawn stores. Joshua Syndell, 26, is charged with receiving stolen property, a Class A felony, because the items allegedly pawned were worth more than $1,500.
