ATF again under Republican fire

The much-maligned Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is again coming under fire from Republicans and gun rights groups, who are pushing to rein in the agency's power — or abolish it altogether. The recent attacks follow the ATF's proposal to prohibit a popular type of armor-piercing ammunition that critics say is a backhanded attempt to render useless AR-15 semi-automatic rifles.

New York's Seapod pawnshops to pay $300,000 to settle EEOC harassment lawsuit

Seapod Pawnbrokers, a chain of pawnshops in Brooklyn and Queens, New York, will pay $300,000 and cut ties with its former owner to settle an EEOC lawsuit charging harassment and retaliation against its Hispanic female employees, the agency announced.

14 handguns stolen from Taylorsville, North Carolina, pawnshop

Police are investigating after they said guns were stolen from a pawnshop in Taylorsville, North Carolina. Investigators said as many as 14 handguns were stolen during a break-in at Mr. G's Pawn and Trade, which is located a block away from the Taylorsville Police Department.

Gold price recovers on global cues, silver remains weak

Gold prices recovered by Rs 85 to Rs 26,625 per 10 grams at the bullion market on the back of buying by jewelers and retailers at prevailing levels amid a firm global trend. Silver, however, remained under selling pressure and lost Rs 100 at Rs 36,200 per kg.

Polished diamond prices remained under pressure in February. Sentiment improved ahead of the Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem and Pearl Show taking place from March 2 to 6, but trading volume was low and liquidity tight in the manufacturing centers. Buyers lacked confidence to make large inventory purchases and limited their buying to fill existing orders.
