New York City pawnshop pays full price to settle harassment complaint

Seapod Pawnshops, with New York stores in Brooklyn and Queens, will pay $300,000 and sever ties with a former owner to settle sexual and racial harassment charges. Employees alleged that the former owner harassed them because of their sex, race and ethnicity.

10 charged after investigation into pawnshops, thefts

Ten people in Connecticut, including owners and managers of pawnshops in Bristol, Wolcott and Torrington, were rounded up following an investigation by state and local police into larcenies throughout the region. State police said the investigation of an organized ring of thieves and a fencing operation to sell stolen goods began with investigators in the New Hartford resident state troopers and expanded to state police detectives, Winsted, Torrington and Wolcott police, the FBI and the chief state's attorney's office. Lowes and Home Depot also assisted.

A high school student has gained a foothold in the business of used basketball sneakers. It may not sound like big business, but it is. Success often comes by thinking out of the box. "I knew it was brilliant but I didn't think it would be this big," said Chase Reed. CBS News first met 17-year-old Reed last June when he opened up Sneaker Pawn in Harlem, New York.

Pawnshop leads police to child porn suspect
WVIT-TV
A Norwalk, Connecticut, pawnshop alerted police to a suspected case of child pornography and police have arrested a local man in the case. In February, a manager of the Yankee Peddler and Pawn in Norwalk called police after discovering child pornography on some sort of a device they had in possession and provided investigators with information about the person who owned the device, police said.

Smyrna, Tennessee, placing new restrictions on alternative lenders

The Smyrna Town Council is putting new restrictions on lending businesses to stop them from bunching up and potentially causing a negative impact on property values, officials say. … Smyrna, Tennessee, has 22 payday lending, title loan and pawnshop businesses spread around town.
