Oscar among upscale items at Beverly Hills, Calif., pawnshop
CNBC    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Pawnshops are going upscale and nowhere is it more evident than in Beverly Hills, Calif., where people are putting up wine to awards for collateral for loans. In this video news article, CNBC's Jane Wells takes a look at what's selling, adding "just because you're the 1 percent doesn't mean you have good credit or have time for a bank to decide whether to loan you cash. You need it now." More

The Kirkland Reporter    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article

Pawnshop acts as bank for some
Herald-Times via LoanSafe    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The TomCats in Bloomington, Ind., is big — with a find-anything merchandise mart on the ground floor and on two floors above, those items being held in pawn and not for sale — all neatly bar-coded, tagged and shelved. Five vehicles, sundry lawn equipment and a slew of ladders are out back, along with a couple of sheds that are also collateral for the small personal loans that pawnshops specialize in. More

Gold tracks oil higher, gains may be capped
Reuters    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Gold rose more than half a percent after firm oil prices prompted safe haven buying from investors and speculators, while technical buying also resurfaced after bullion bounced from its weakest level in two months. But gains may be capped by worries that a plan by main consumer India to double its import duty could cause a temporary slip in purchases. Silver tracked gold higher, while platinum prices stayed at premiums to bullion on supply concerns. More

Pawn America is right for Minnesota community
South West Review    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
For some people, a pawnshop can be a quick fix to a big problem. For others, a pawnshop conjures up a sordid market for stolen goods. In Inver Grove Heights, Minn., however, the first foray into pawning has been anything but quick and leaves little room for shady practices. The city will add its first pawn store this summer after being approached by Pawn America last fall. More
