Pawnbroker finds his calling in Takoma Park, Maryland
The Gazette
After trying a few jobs following high school graduation, Victor Goodman started working for a pawnshop in Washington, D.C. The shop was a few blocks from the White House. It was the 1960s. "Anything that was happening in the city was right outside our door," Goodman said. "There were demonstrations and protest marches going on right outside us. I loved meeting people that came in and being in the middle of things. It was the best job in the world. … I had found my calling."

Apple's trade-in program now includes non-Apple smartphones and PCs

Apple has expanded its trade-in program, which offers credit towards new device purchases in exchange for older hardware, to non-Apple smartphones and PCs (via 9to5Mac). News of the program expansion comes from changed language on Apple Store pages describing the reuse and recycle initiative on Apple's U.S., U.K., Canada and some other European store sites.

Indiana woman becomes 'Pawn Star'

Terri Crane of DeMotte, Indiana, collects and restores vintage dolls from the 1960s, and recently appeared in an episode of History Channels, "Pawn Stars" reality show. Pawn Stars is a show based in Las Vegas. Crane said she was contacted by the show after a producer saw her website, mattelcollectibles.com, asking if she would like to come to Las Vegas to sell some of her dolls.

Goffstown police push for regulation of pawnshops
The Union Leader
Following a surge of burglaries and vehicle thefts in the Pinardville, New Hampshire-area, police are proposing an ordinance that would help crack down on the sale of stolen goods through pawnshops in town. Goffstown Police Chief Robert Browne and Capt. Kerry Steckowych recently spoke before the board of selectmen about their proposed ordinance. Browne told the board that Goffstown is one of the only municipalities in the area that does not regulate pawnshops.

ATF: Guns stolen from Chesapeake, Virginia, pawnshop
The Virginian-Pilot
Authorities are offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of those who stole guns during a pawnshop burglary. Ten firearms were stolen late on Feb. 18, from Liberty Pawn in Chesapeake, Virginia, according to a news release from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Discarded pawn tickets lead to North Carolina man's arrest

Pawn tickets left behind led to an arrest of a Cherryville, North Carolina, man in connection with the theft of jewelry and checks. The victim told officers she had plumbers doing repairs at her home and they discovered pawn tickets for jewelry, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office.
