Arizona's largest pawnshop trying to nix local fees

A proposal at the Arizona Legislature would ban cities — including Phoenix and Scottsdale — from imposing fees on pawnshop loans. The move is being pushed by Cash America International Inc. The Fort Worth, Texas-based company is the largest pawn shop operators in the state with 36 stores., according to Brian Tassinari, a lobbyist for the company. It operates SuperPawn stores. Cash America is pushing House Bill 2419 at the Legislature. It would prohibit cities from imposing special fees and taxes on pawn shops who sell gold.

Man, 29, found dead in Michigan pawnshop

A 29-year-old man was killed in a shooting at his Lincoln Park, Michigan, pawnshop.Ali Hassan said when his brother, Muhammad Hassan, didn't show up for dinner, family members went to check on him at the Platinum pawn hop. Hassan said he found a chaotic scene and his brother's body.

Bank closes Brooksville, Florida, pawn, gun shop owner's account

SunTrust Bank doesn't want Steve Champion's money because it doesn't like how he earns it. Champion owns American Gun & Pawn in Brooksville, Florida. "At first I thought it must be a hoax," he said. But this is no joke. SunTrust sent Champion a letter, dated March 20, advising him to withdraw his funds immediately.

Monticello, Minnesota, council gives pawnshop business green light, OKs application

Monticello council members in Minnesota were unanimous in supporting an application for a pawnshop, but elected to restrict Stacy and Brad Schultz's license request to six months. The couple worked directly with former Deputy City Clerk Cathy Shuman to iron out application-related details.
