Report shows US working poor on the rise
Law Firm Newswire
That is the conclusion of a recent report from the Working Poor Project. The working poor are families struggling with poverty, despite having working parents. Much of the recent decline in unemployment comes from relatively low-paying jobs in the service and retail industries. Tampa bankruptcy attorney O. Reginald Osenton commented, "It is sad to see that despite the employment situation improving somewhat, the problem of poverty continues to grow. Huge numbers of American families are struggling to stay afloat."

The most effective strategies for success
Harvard Business Review
Roughly two years ago, Heidi Halvorson, associate director for the Motivation Science Center at Columbia University Business School, wrote about the "Nine Things Successful People Do Differently," which became HBR's most-read piece of content over that time span. It was a list of strategies, based on decades of scientific research, proven effective for setting and reaching challenging goals. But how would readers know if they were doing enough of each "thing?" To help answer that question, last spring Halvorson created something she called the Nine Things Diagnostics — it's a free, online set of questionnaires designed to measure your own use of each of the nine things in pursuit of your personal and professional goals.
