Gold prices rose more than 1 percent, recovering from last week's hefty drop after disappointing U.S. jobs data revived hopes for fresh monetary easing and a spike in Chinese inflation boosted appetite for the metal. Market watchers said a report on Friday showing that U.S. employers had hired far fewer workers in March than in previous months could keep the door open for the Federal Reserve to provide more monetary support for a still sluggish economy. The Codes and Ordinances Committee in Rochester, N.H., will consider a recommendation from the Police Department before further discussing an ordinance change that would impose a holding period on secondhand dealers before allowing them to resell items they buy. Pawnshop owners and secondhand dealers expressed that holding on to items even for one or two weeks would hinder their businesses, and members of the committee brainstormed ways to help victims of burglaries while having as little effect on local businesses as possible. Kentucky pawnshop operator faces thousands of charges

Lewis Gray, a pawnshop owner in Barbourville, Ky., is charged with 4,582 misdemeanors. Authorities said Gray, owner of T & L pawnshop allegedly deferred deposit check transactions. "It is a loan that is issued against a check and then either the check is written for an amount over the loan or you pay an amount over the check face value to pick the check up," said Det. Steve Owens of the Barbourville Police Department. More
