Pawnshop buys rare President Lincoln document

If you're looking for a rare collectible item, the Gold and Silver Trading Company in Bakersfield, California, may have exactly what you're looking for. But that's not all, you can find everything from lawn mowers and tools, to rare coin's and sports memorabilia. … It's not easy finding unique items. Kameron Kepharte, owner, goes to garage sales, swap meets and estate sales. "It's really a lot of work to obtain unique items, most of the time they don't just walk in the door, though it has happened," said Kepharte.

Crazy Louie's Pawn Shop expands to Fruitland, Maryland

A third Crazy Louie's Pawn Shop is coming to Fruitland, Maryland, and is set to open April 17. "We hope to better serve our customers from Somerset County and the eastern shore of Virginia," General Manager Steve Kottman said. "We've been looking to open up a new store for a while now and we believe we found a good location for us and for the community."

SunTrust bank closed Florida shop's accounts for selling guns, website says

A bank suddenly closing checking accounts for a Brooksville, Florida, pawnshop that sells guns has opened up Internet speculation that the Obama administration influenced the decision. Under the headline "Suntrust Bank Cancels Account Because Company Sells Guns," the website FloridaNewsFlash.com recounts how American Gun & Pawn owner Steve Champion received a letter from SunTrust dated March 20, 2015, telling him his deposit accounts, safe deposit boxes and credit cards would be closed.

Michigan lawmakers consider new regulations for second hand stores and pawnshops

A trio of bills in the Michigan legislature would create a statewide database of second hand shop sales. State Representative Mike Callton says a single data base will help police officers track stolen goods that thieves may try to sell to pawnshops, gold dealers and other second hand stores.

    Pilot program in Texas may offer help for unbanked and underbanked consumers

    Texans should keep a close eye on a recently announced pilot program by the company behind the widely used FICO credit score. The program will use non-traditional criteria to identify creditworthy consumers. And if it's eventually adopted by lenders, it could really help the state's large number of unbanked and underbanked residents.

    Gold slips as dollar gains, US rate hike worries drag

    Gold dropped for a fourth session in five as the dollar firmed, backed by expectations the Federal Reserve may be on course to raise U.S. interest rates soon. Fed official Jeffrey Lacker repeated his call for the U.S. central bank to consider hiking interest rates in June, and said there was no shame in adjusting them lower again if economic data demanded it.

    19-year-old jewelry thief caught after pawnshop heist in the Seattle area

    A 19-year-old jewelry thief was caught and arrested after fleeing on foot from a heist at a Beacon Hill pawnshop, located in a neighborhood in southeast Seattle. The same man had been involved in an incident at the same pawnshop — when he tore a necklace from the neck of a customer and ran off with it.

    3 Sarasota, Florida, teens are accused of breaking into a pawnshop and stealing 11 firearms

    The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office in Florida says deputies arrested three teenagers after they burglarized a south Venice pawn shop and stole 11 firearms. The burglary and theft were captured on surveillance video.

    Ryan Smolkin credits Smoke, the middle-aged man wearing glasses as seen on the red T-shirt he's wearing, as the visionary behind his restaurant, Smoke's Poutinerie. "He feeds me ideas late at night," Smolkin said. "I have a special bond with him." There's even a mention of Smoke on the company's website, which reads, "not much is known about Smoke, except that he lives in a penthouse cabin made of Lego deep in the woods, far up North by the Quebec border."

    Internet gun sales in Oregon creating dangerous, unregulated market, report claims

    A national group seeking to tighten Oregon gun laws released a report saying that the state has developed a large market for unregulated firearms sales on the Internet. The report from Everytown for Gun Safety said sellers using just four popular websites may be transferring as many as 25,000 guns a year in Oregon without conducting criminal background checks.
