Brooksville Gun & Pawn in Florida takes SunTrust story national, plans protest

Brooksville's American Gun & Pawn in Florida is speaking out about SunTrust Bank's decision to cancel its accounts. Owner Steve Champion is furious that the bank cut off his accounts, especially after learning of other accounts SunTrust closed around the country. … Through it all, SunTrust will only say it decided to stop doing business with pawnshops.

Oklahoma City police: Car slams into pawnshop, suspects steal gun

Oklahoma City police said a car slammed into a pawnshop, stealing several guns from inside the store before fleeing the scene. Police said the suspects were in a stolen vehicle.

Criticism may prompt new law on jewelry sales

More than two dozen coin brokers, jewelry store and pawnshop owners in New York showed up to urge Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz to veto a law regulating secondhand jewelry, coin and precious metal sales that was passed unanimously by the County Legislature last month. The public hearing in the Rath County Office Building was held in advance of a decision by Poloncarz to sign or veto the legislation.

Why small businesses are turning to online lenders

Small business owners are increasingly turning to online lenders to fill their credit needs. One in five credit-seeking small businesses surveyed in 2013 applied to an online lender, a Federal Reserve Bank of New York survey reveals. And former Small Business Administration head Karen Mills (now a senior fellow at Harvard Business School) reports that online lending is the fastest-growing segment of the small-business-lending market.

Gold, silver price forecasts slashed as US rate rise looms

Analysts have made big cuts to expectations for gold and silver prices this year and next after the metals, weighed down by the prospect of higher U.S. interest rates, failed to recover last year's losses in early 2015. A poll of 38 analysts and traders conducted by Reuters over the last month returned a median forecast of $1,209 an ounce for gold this year, down from $1,234 an ounce in a similar poll conducted in January.

Gun background check bill passes Oregon Senate on 17-13 vote

A measure that would require criminal background checks for private gun transfers in Oregon passed the Senate on a 17-13 vote and now heads to the House. Democrats used their bigger majority to push the controversial gun bill through the Senate, which had blocked action on similar measures in 2013 and 2014. Sen. Betsy Johnson, D-Scappoose, joined all 12 Republicans in voting against the measure.
