Illinois' Pontiac Exchange marks 30th year in pawnshop business

Pontiac Exchange's pawnshop is celebrating its 30th year in business. Wes Lane, owner, said that the business has grown and moved locations during the years of business in Pontiac, Ill. "We opened a gun shop in 1980 and in 1982, we opened a pawnshop along with the gun shop," said Lane. The shop has evolved and expanded since the start of the pawnshop in 1981. More

A pawnshop employee took down a would-be robber with the help of a dog in Moreno Valley, Calif., and the entire incident was caught on camera. The robbery suspect, Hakim Salone, walked into the Empire Jewelry and Loan and pointed a gun at Richard Salgado, a store worker. That's when Capone, a Rottweiler, went after Salone. More

Marietta, Ga., police investigate 'brutal' pawnshop robbery

The Marietta Police Department is looking for a man suspected of stabbing a Georgia pawnshop employee over the weekend. The stabbing happened at around 10 a.m. April 14 at The Hock Shop. Marietta Police spokesman Det. Chris Lindsey said the suspect tried to rob the store and ended up struggling with the employee, who received life-threatening stab wounds during the attack. More

A Florence, S.C., teenager responsible for a fatal shooting at a pawnshop that claimed the life of a beloved local musician last year will spend the rest of his life in prison for his crimes. Jurors deliberated about two hours before finding now-18-year-old Tavario Brunson guilty of murder, attempted murder, armed robbery, second degree burglary and possession of a firearm in an April 12, 2011 robbery at Rick's Pawn Shop that left 33-year-old Stephen Christopher "Chris" Deaver dead and 37-year-old Donna Robinson wounded.

$100,000 bail set for man accused of stealing, pawning tools

Prosecutors charged a Missoula, Mont., man with stealing and then pawning thousands of dollars worth of construction equipment. Investigators say Kory Steven Piatz took tools from construction workers and sold them to First Interstate Pawn. Missoula County deputies say when they located Piatz he lied about his name, and told them the workers had no proof he stole the tools. More

A recent string of bike thefts proves the new second-hand dealer ordinance is working, said Madison, Wis., police. Beginning Feb. 1, the city started requiring all second-hand stores to enter information about their purchases from the public into an online database called Leads Online. More
