There are plenty of reasons people still live all-cash lives, but the sheer number who do it might surprise you. At a time when the majority of Americans use online banking, and some even deposit checks using their cellphone cameras, roughly eight percent of America's 115 million households don’t have a checking or savings account, according to census data compiled by the FDIC.

Broward Sheriff's Office: Robbers flee after threatening to kill Pompano Beach, Fla., pawnshop employees

Scared off by police sirens, two masked, armed robbers ran off just seconds after taking three Pompano Beach, Fla., pawnshop employees into a wooded area and threatening to kill them, authorities said. The robbers held up Value Pawn employees Amaral Azor, 33, Caridad Novaton, 42, and Lily Quinones, 25, as they were closing the store, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

Pawnshop owners expecting little change after new law

Current Virginia law states that pawnshops must see a government-issued identification from sellers, and give the police a daily report of each seller's name, address and other information from their ID card. A new law passed by Virginia state legislature states that in addition to these measures, the ID must have a photo of the seller, and pawnbrokers must keep a digital image of the seller's ID.

Orange Beach, Ala., increases restrictions on tattoo parlors, pawnshops, among others

In what city leaders called a proactive move to protect Orange Beach, Ala.'s family-centered image, the council on Wednesday night approved further restrictions on pawnshops, tattoo parlors, body-piercing studios, palm readers and cash-advance loan outfits. The City Council voted unanimously to amend the zoning ordinance that regulates businesses that have been deemed undesirable.

Phoenix-area firearms dealers feeling pinch of national ammo shortage

The run on ammunition across the nation is creating fallout for gun-related businesses in the Phoenix area. Dale Roddy with Desert Valley Firearms in Chandler said it has never been this difficult to keep his shelves stocked. He said ammunitions manufacturers have told him it will be at least nine months before they can return to full production.

Gold jumps more than 2 pct on technical buying

Gold jumped more than 2 percent after a rebound above $1,400 ignited technical buying, but sentiment was shaky as steady outflows from exchange-traded funds trimmed their bullion holdings to the lowest in three years. The technical outlook for gold, which has plunged more than 15 percent so far this year, is yet to improve although the safe-haven asset could find support from a rush in physical buying in Asia and other parts of the world.

Pawnshops to require more ID from sellers

To curb the sale of stolen property, pawnshops soon will keep a photo of people who sell the stores items. And pawnbrokers will be prohibited from receiving or re-selling goods if the original serial number has been altered or change. That's the gist of a new Virginia state law that will take effect July 1.

Alabama pawnshop owners arrested on solicitation charge

A Shoals, Ala., husband and wife has been arrested, accused of soliciting criminals to bring stolen items to their Lauderdale County pawnshop. Investigators say the couple has been under investigation by deputies for close to two years. According to sheriff's investigators, Timothy Joe Phillips and his wife, Melda Diane Phillips, each face charges of receiving stolen property and criminal solicitation.
