Goose Creek, SC, man sentenced to 3 years in prison for pawnshop scheme

The former owner of a North Charleston, South Carolina, pawnshop was sentenced to three years in prison for buying about $1 million in stolen merchandise and selling it online, according to prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney's Office. Eugene Walter Jones, 60, of Goose Creek, South Carolina, was sentenced for his participation in the Patriot Pawn shop scheme, prosecutors said.

Arkansas attorney general sues Lonoke County, Ark., pawnbroker over loans

Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel filed a lawsuit accusing a Lonoke County pawnbroker of marketing illegal auto-title loans with interest rates of more than 300 percent to dozens of Arkansas consumers. McDaniel filed the suit in Pulaski County Circuit Court against Toby R. Troutman, owner of TRT Investments Inc. Troutman and TRT Investments operate US Pawn and Loan in Austin.

LG introduces G Pad tablets

Armed robbers hit Manchester, Conn., pawnshop

Two armed thieves robbed a Manchester, Connecticut, pawnshop, pistol-whipping one worker, police said. Police responded to Silk City Exchange, where they found the robbers had stolen an undisclosed amount of money from a safe, police said.

Payday lender subpoenaed in US criminal probe

A U.S. grand jury has subpoenaed a company that a federal regulator has said is at the center of a deceptive payday lending scheme, a source familiar with the matter said. AMG Services Inc was subpoenaed as part of a criminal probe conducted by the office of Preet Bharara, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.
