Religious items very popular in pawn business, says Pawn Stars' Rick Harrison
The Washington Post
If television adds 10 pounds to some unlucky actors, it evidently does the same for pawnshops. Gold & Silver Pawn, which is located a few miles north of the Las Vegas Strip, feels smaller in person than it does on the History channel. But on a recent visit to the store's 713 South Las Vegas Boulevard location, the wares included an impressive array of religious holdings. A glass display case at the front of the shop featured an early-to-mid-18th century German bible with handsome illustrations and an elaborately decorated cover with floral and geometric patterns.

Thieves steal $100,000 in jewelry, cash from London, Ky., pawnshop safe
WKYT-TV
When the owners of M&M Pawn Shop in London, Ky., opened a recent morning, it was only a typical day for a moment, then the moment was gone. "The first thing I noticed is that, that back back door, which is always closed, was open and I could see sunlight shining through the wall," described Michael Taylor, who co-owns the business with his brother-in-law. "Within about a minute we knew that we had a bad problem."

Reality check: Meet the unlikely stars of 'Pawn Stars'
Los Angeles Times
Las Vegas is home to plenty of iconic attractions, but its latest must-see destination has come as a bit of a surprise even to its owners. Can you overdo people skills?
Harvard Business Review Blog Network
In our work with leaders on overplayed strengths, people sometimes object to the idea that every strength can be taken too far. For instance, an academic journal editor once held up publication of a research article stating flatly that "it is impossible for a leader to be too supportive, caring, and loyal."

9 tips to power up your social media
Entrepreneur
Barbara Findlay Schenck, a small-business strategist, said: "Last month, I came across this SOS on LinkedIn: 'Help! What is the recommended amount of time we should be spending per day on social media marketing to help promote our business?' The plea quickly drew nearly 200 responses and absolutely no consensus, with answers ranging from 'none' to 'all day long.' The common thread, however, which a good many posts made clear, is that whether you're devoting minutes, hours or days, you're wasting time if you're posting endlessly about you, your business or your success. Gun safety advocates are calling for legislative passage of a bill that would make it a crime to sell a gun to a person who's prohibited from possessing a weapon. Portland, Maine, Democratic Rep.
