Sophisticated Puyallup, Washington, heist nets burglars $1 million in gold

In what could have been a scene straight out of a Hollywood movie, police say a group of sophisticated burglars cut holes in several roofs to pull off a million dollar gold heist this weekend in Puyallup, Washington. Police were called to Gold Definitions after employees at the jewelry store realized they'd been cleaned out by thieves.

Lawsuit filed over pawnshop shootings in Danville, Kentucky

The mother of one of the victims in last year's murders and robbery at a Danville, Kentucky, pawnshop has filled a lawsuit against the man accused of killing her son. Barbara Lewis filed the complaint last week in Boyle Circuit Court against Kenneth Allen Keith, the preacher from Burnside who faces murder charges for allegedly gunning down Lewis' son, Michael Hockensmith, his wife Angela and Daniel Smith of Richmond inside ABC Gold Games and More on the morning of Sept. 20.

Payday lenders sue regulators over operation choke point

The Community Financial Services Association of America, the main payday lending trade group, sued U.S. banking regulators, accusing them of applying "back room pressure" on banks to stop serving the group's members. A federal anti-fraud initiative known as Operation Choke Point unfairly targets online and storefront lenders by claiming they pose a reputational risk to the banks serving them, according to the complaint filed in federal court in Washington.

Charges filed against Indiana pawnshop employee

An employee of a Fort Wayne, Indiana, pawnshop was charged for what police said what his role in encouraging people to bring him stolen merchandise he would then sell online. Mark D. Kline, 45, is charged with corrupt business influence after a confidential informant brought items to him and claimed they were stolen, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Eau Claire, Wisconsin, police target property crimes, eye pawnshops

More than $48,000 worth of stolen property was recovered by Eau Claire, Wisconsin, police and returned to its owners between Feb. 1 and June 1. A key component in many of the cases is pawnshops.

Houston police video from armed robbery at north Houston pawnshop
KTRK-TV
Surveillance video was released of two suspects wanted in a north Houston armed robbery last month. It happened just before 1 p.m. May 24 at the EZ Money Loan. Police say two suspects entered the store. One suspect walked to the counter and asked about getting a loan.

EGL International identifies synthetics mixed with natural diamonds

EGL International discovered four substantial-size synthetic diamonds mixed in with a package containing 20 diamonds submitted for grading by one of its established customers. The group's CEO, Guy D. Benhamou, noted that the four synthetic stones were 0.90-carat, 0.91-carat, 0.96-carat and 1.71 carats, VS to VVS in clarity and J to K in color, type IIa diamonds.

Prosecutors: Pawnshop robbers caught after changing clothes

Three armed robbers made off with thousands of dollars in cash and jewelry from a Southwest Side Chicago pawnshop, but two suspects were caught with their loot after stopping to change clothes at a nearby house where an elderly resident was eating breakfast.
